Exercising is one of the best ways to stay healthy. There are so many benefits: you’ll have strength, muscles, and a toned body. You’ll feel good about yourself, you’ll have better posture, and even your skin will look better. But maybe you’re having a hard time getting started, or even keeping yourself motivated. These ideas will help.
SET REALISTIC GOALS. Telling yourself you’re going to work out for 2 hours every day no matter what is a recipe for disaster. Who can keep up a pace like that? Instead, make reasonable promises to yourself, like that you’ll set aside half an hour three times a week to work out in a way that you find fun and enjoyable.
GIVE YOUR HEART A WORK OUT. That means doing something considered “aerobic” like biking, running, kickboxing, and swimming. “Anaerobic” exercises include weigh lifting, push-ups, crunches, and squats and they can be good for you too! Always ask your doctor before starting a new exercise routine.
STRETCH WARM MUSCLES TO AVOID INJURY. You’ve probably heard how important it is to stretch before and after a workout, but the key is to avoid stretching “cold” muscles. Warm them up with five minutes of light activity like speed walking, marching in place, or stepping right and left. Don’t forget to breathe!
DONT GO IT ALONE. Sign up for track, join a tennis team, and have some fitness fun with your friends!
